Emburse Assurance - Duplicate Receipt Check

Deployment Schedule: Available to all customers subscribed to Emburse Assurance as of September 10, 2026.

As part of Emburse Assurance, organizations can now enable the Duplicate Receipt Check to identify duplicate receipts submitted across the organization, either by the same employee or by different employees.

The Duplicate Receipt Check looks beyond simple date and amount duplicate detection. It analyzes the receipt holistically and adjusts its validation based on the expense type. It can detect receipt reuse across users and expense reports, even when receipt images or available receipt details differ.

The Duplicate Receipt Check can also identify different photos of the same receipt, including photos taken from different angles. This helps organizations identify potential duplicate reimbursements and fraudulent behavior. The check creates an alert only when the receipt is linked to a submitted expense that is no longer in Draft status. This helps reviewers focus on potential duplicate reimbursements.

Administrators can enable the rule by opening the Configuration page and selecting Emburse Assurance Audit Rules. Select the Duplicate Receipt Check, then enter a custom violation message to display to approvers and auditors. If necessary, exceptions can be created if the rule should ignore specific employees, departments, or expense categories.

Once enabled, approvers and auditors see violations on expense report line items if the receipt image matches a previously submitted receipt.

Selecting More Details provides additional information on the violation, as well as a list of duplicates, the submitter, the status of the duplicate receipts, and the specific expense report.

Selecting the receipt icon in the duplicate details table opens a side-by-side comparison of duplicates for further inspection.

The Duplicate Receipt Check identifies duplicates when different photographs are taken from different devices, angles, or upload methods, helping your finance team eliminate fraud and abuse.

The Duplicate Receipt Check also identifies duplicates when the submitted expense details, such as amount, date, or vendor, differ between the duplicates.
