Emburse Assurance - Attendee Check
Deployment Schedule: Available to all customers subscribed to Emburse Assurance as of September 25, 2026.
The Attendee Check, available as part of Emburse Assurance, compares the submitted attendee count to the estimated attendee count from the receipt image to flag potentially fraudulent and miscoded meal expenses.
Emburse Assurance estimates the number of attendees using signals from the receipt image, such as guest counts, number of entrees, and total meal cost. That estimated count is compared against the number of attendees the employee submitted on the expense line. Expense lines with high variance between estimated attendee count and actual attendee count will be flagged for review from approvers and auditors.
Like all Assurance rules, administrators can enable the rule by opening the Configuration page and selecting Emburse Assurance Audit Rules. Custom messaging can be configured, and the rule can be applied to specific user groups if necessary.
The Attendee Check will flag expenses after they have been submitted. Approvers will see an Assurance alert and can select the More Details link to learn more.
For each Assurance violation, Reasoning will be provided, explaining why the receipt was flagged. A risk score will be assigned as well, based on absolute variance between estimated attendees and actual attendees. For example, an attendee variance of only two attendees will result in a Medium Risk, whereas a variance of 3 or more attendees (for small parties) will result in a High Risk expense. Large parties of ten or more will leverage a percentage variance, rather than absolute variance, to determine risk levels, helping to focus your approvers and auditors on the highest risk expenses.
The Attendee Check only applies to meal categories leveraging the Detailed Attendee functionality, which requires submitters to provide specific details for each attendee.

Emburse Assurance - Receipt Discrepancy
Deployment Schedule: Available to all customers subscribed to Emburse Assurance as of September 21, 2026.
The Receipt Discrepancy Check, from Emburse Assurance, will scan the receipt image and flag the expense line if the date, amount, or currency from the receipt image does not match the date, amount, or currency of the expense submitted.
The Receipt Discrepancy Check was previously available only to approvers and auditors, and flagged expense lines after the expense had been submitted.
Going forward, the Receipt Discrepancy Check can be configured as a Pre-Submit alert. If configured, submitters will be alerted to the discrepancy prior to expense report submission. This helps to catch clerical errors and eliminate tedious back and forth between approver and submitter, catching problems before they slow down the approval process.
Administrators will see a new setting within the Receipt Discrepancy configuration panel. Administrators can turn on the Rule Visibility setting to show the alert prior to expense report submission.
Once enabled, submitters will be required to review and leave comments on any expenses which are flagged by the Receipt Discrepancy Rule, prior to report submission.
If the submitter does not correct the mistake and clear the alert, an explanation will be required before the report can be submitted.
