Organizations that use an American Express® Corporate Card program can connect their card program to Emburse to automatically import card transactions.
This article is for administrators who want to connect their organization's American Express Corporate Card program to Emburse.
Corporate or Business Card Program
If you are not sure whether your organization uses a Corporate Card Program or a Business Card Program, contact your American Express representative or review the front of the card.
Corporate Card Programs display CORPORATE on the card. Business Card Programs display BUSINESS.
If your organization uses a Business Card Program, review Connect an American Express Business Card Program .
Required Documents
American Express requires two completed documents before the integration can be established. Download the required documents from the attachments at the bottom of this article.
Complete the following documents:
- Global Data Transfer Form
- Emburse Professional Implementation Form for American Express
A guide for completing the Global Data Transfer Form is also included.
Submit Documents to Emburse
After completing the documents, submit them through a Support Ticket .
Attach the completed documents and request a new American Express Corporate Card integration in the ticket description.
What Happens Next
- The Emburse Support team submits the documents to American Express on your behalf.
- American Express establishes a nightly transaction file feed that is delivered securely to Emburse through Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP).
- The Emburse Support team contacts you after the file feed is established and transactions begin importing into users' Wallets.
Automatic Card Mapping
After transactions begin importing, American Express cards automatically map to user accounts based on the cardholder's first and last name.
A card automatically maps to a user when all of the following conditions are true:
- The cardholder first name received in the nightly file exactly matches a user's first name in Emburse.
- The cardholder last name received in the nightly file exactly matches the same user's last name in Emburse.
- The user record is set to Active.
If two users share the same first and last name, the card will not be mapped automatically.
Manual Card Mapping
If a card cannot be mapped automatically, an administrator can manually map, unmap, or remap cards from the Edit Mapping page.
- Select Settings on the home page.
- Under System Integrations, select Manage Your Card Programs.
- Open the menu for the American Express program and select Edit Mapping.
- On the Card Mapping page, you can:
- Assign a card to an employee.
- Unassign a card if you do not want transactions from that card to import into Emburse.
- Reassign a card to a different employee.
If a card is not assigned to an employee, transactions from that card do not import into Emburse.
We recommend assigning all cards to simplify monthly reconciliation.
If a card is reassigned to a different employee, previously imported transactions remain with the original employee. New transactions import to the newly assigned employee.
A card can only be assigned to one employee at a time. If multiple employees share a card, assign the card to an administrator. The administrator can distribute transactions to the appropriate employees from their Wallet.
After a card is assigned, the employee can view the card details on the Account Settings page.
New Cards
New cards created under your organization's American Express program are automatically included in the nightly transaction file.
Emburse attempts to assign each new card automatically using the same cardholder name matching criteria described above.
